QUARTZ CRYSTAL

For thousand of years, mankind has valued and cherished crystals- for their inherent beauty, for their physical, astrological and esoteric properties. They have always been regarded with awe by wise men and shamans from primeval times and throughout most ancient and modern civilizations.

The term “Quartz” comes from the German word,

“Quarz”, which means “hard”.  Ancient Greeks called quartz “Krustallos”.  “Kruos” in Greek means “icy cold”. Together these words became Quartz Crystal in the English language. The chemical formula is SiO2. It has a hardness of 7 on the Moh’s scale.

Quartz is a hard, crystalline mineral composed of two oxygen and one silicone atom. It takes years to form this mineral under extreme pressure. Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth’s crust and is

thought to be the crystalline form of silicon dioxide. However, the process of forming quartz crystals is more complex as it requires extreme pressure over many years.

Quartz can be igneous, metamorphic, or sedimentary in origin. Quartz has the greatest numMagmatic quartz forms as a result of silica rich magma solidification. It crystallises during the last stages of igneous rock formation. Also, Quartz forms by precipitation from silica-rich hydrothermal solutions in veins and vugs ( wiki: A vug, is a small- to medium-sized cavity inside a rock). 

Silica rich lavas have a higher chance of forming quartz crystals. If the lava bursts and comes outside the Earth’s crust, it will cool down quickly. On the other hand, if the magma stays inside the earth’s crust, it will cool down slowly, allowing quartz crystals and other minerals of different chemical  compositions to form, depending on the nature of the magma and its attributes.

It  is interesting to note that quartz can also form in hot water solutions, known as hydrothermal environments which are a hotbed for quartz crystals in their  purest forms.  The hydrothermal process takes place at temperatures between 100 degrees and 450  degrees centigrade and requires high pressures to form  the crystals fully. These quartz crystals result from layer by layer additions of SiO2 molecules on the surface.

Quartz occurs in a solid state only. The definition of a mineral is a solid, natural, inorganic substance with a regularly repeated inner atomic structure. When magma is liquid, it as a mixture of many elements.

Crystals can assist us to use our ability, to focus our mental energy for well being and telepathy. To communicate with our spiritual being, increasing our inner vibrations, amplifying and stimulating all our mental abilities. Thus enabling us to heal ourselves, others and the Earth, our home.

Clear Quartz in particular has the ability to amplify and transmit subtle vibrations. Quartz is the symbol of elemental wholeness, containing the four elements of creation. The symbols are one or more small pyramids which give the appearance of having been etched into the faces of these crystals.
